On Saturday, October 7th, from 11:30 till 12:30, we will hold a Vigil for Disarmament at Bath Iron Works in Solidarity with the International Week of Protest to Stop the Militarization of Space. We will gather across from the Administration Building on Washington Street in Bath and then walk up the street holding signs and banners to leaflet the workers at the noon shift change. General Dynamics is now building 6 nuclear capable Aegis guided missile Destroyers here in the BIW shipyard with contracts into the 2030s for more. We are in a permanent war economy.
War is madness and the continued production of warships at BIW only perpetuates injustice and prevents us from using the Earth's resources to heal the many needs that are crying out to be addressed around the world. Instead we need to work to create a disarmed world through love and nonviolence and use our resources to heal our beloved Mother Earth and seriously address the true causes of climate change. It is time to convert BIW to build something that promotes life so this endless war economy will stop strangling us.
Love needs to be the measure.
Give Peace a chance through Disarmament.
