Black Lives Matter Stand

  • Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine (map)

The group who has been standing weekly on Sundays since George Floyd's murder in 2020 as the Black Lives Matter stand met recently to share our ideas both of frequency of stands in this cold winter, and of broadening our message at times, to include other issues of justice, equity and peace.

We arrived at a consensus to continue to stand on the corners of Post Office Square one Sunday a month, for the next 3 months. This will be on the first Sunday of each month at 12 noon, and we will send an email reminder to us all, and make choices for our next sign focus together, at each stand. In the spring, we will meet again to reconsider our choices.

Given the recent death of Tyre Nichols after a violent traffic stop by Memphis police, we choose to STAND this month ( too cold on the5th) on

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 12 NOON AT POST OFFICE SQUARE BELFAST  Against the Violence of Hatred and For Black Lives, which Must Matter, for all lives to matter....JOIN US, the struggle continues.

Honor Black History Month with action.
