Connect the Dots – May 5th, 12 – 2 PM

On the Orono Route 2 bridge, we will gather to show folks who are leaving the morning commencement and arriving for the afternoon commencement, four bright orange dots 22 inches in diameter, each with one of the following phrases:

  • 350 ppm safe level CO2
  • 392 ppm  CO2 today
  • 40% sea ice decrease + student debt
  • stop melting graduate future?

or folks may want to bring their own sign.

It’s great  an opportunity to join the global day of raising awareness by connecting the dots about climate change.

Hope to see more Orono/Bangor folks there.

P&J General Assembly Potluck and Sing-a-Long

You are invited to join us for our annual General Assembly potluck supper on Saturday, May 12th from 6 – 8 pm at the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine.

The delicious and varied food we share is always a delightful reflection of the diversity of people and issues the Center brings together.

Let’s celebrate our multi-faced on-going work for peace, justice and sustainability, and elect the steering committee for 2012-2013.

We are grateful to Katrina Bisheimer, Kay Carter, Kerry Curtis, Mike Howard, Al Larson, Peter Phillips and Blane Shaw for helping to guide the Center this past year and who are willing to be renominated to the steering committee for the coming year.

The potluck and election will be followed by a sing along with Judd Esty-Kendall, who carries on in the tradition of Pete Seeger by inviting us all to join our voices in song.

Come and join us as we thank all those who have volunteered their time, talent and treasure to keep the Center going for our 23rd year.

Winter/Spring 2012 P&J Film Series

Films are shown at 7 p.m. Sundays at the Center, 96 Harlow Street, Bangor, and are followed by discussion.

April 29: “The Age of Stupid” (part of Earth Week). This ambitious documentary/drama/animation hybrid stars Pete Postlethwaite as an archivist in the devastated world of the future, asking the question: “Why didn’t we stop climate change when we still had the chance?” He looks back on footage of real people around the world in the years leading up to 2015 before runaway climate change took place.
