Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Disussion & Cafe in Orono on January 18th

Sunday, January 18th from 3:00 – 8:00 pm
Keith Anderson Community Center in Orono (next to Post Office)

Snow Date is now in effect! Monday, January 19th , Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine 170 Park Street, Bangor

3:00 – 5:00 “Talking about Martin Luther King, Jr. and Barak Obama” — join an open conversation facilitated by the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine about hopes and fears for the Obama administration and the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

5:30 Potluck supper– bring a dish to share

6:00 7:00 – “I Have a Dream” Cafe [now to be at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 120 Park Street, Bangor] — sign up to share a poem, song, story, or a visual relating to the vision of Martin Luther King, Jr (10 minute limit). Local Americorps members have invited civil rights teams from area high schools to present their dreams for a more peaceful and just society at the Cafe*.

This event is free and open to the public

Tickets will also be on sale at the cafe for the The NAACP Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfastis still scheduled for the University of Maine on Monday, January 19th from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

* Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Disussion & Cafe is sponsored by the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine in collaboration with local AmeriCorps members and other community partners. Thanks to the Maine Commission for Community Service for supporting the outreach project by AmeriCorps members inviting local high school civil rights teams to participate in the Cafe.
