“Singing for Peace” Concert
Singing for Peace
Voices for Peace & Women with Wings
Friday March 28, 7:00pm
The Brick Church
Corner of Union and S. Main, Bangor
Global harmony will be the focus on March 28th when Voices for Peace and Women with Wings sing together in concert at 7 pm at the Brick Church in Bangor. With their repertoire featuring songs of peace, justice and hope, they join thousands of voices around the world singing in concerts during the month of March. Through music the singers strive to redirect war making to peace building.
What began as a national movement to commemorate the 5th year of war in Iraq has expanded worldwide to focus attention on the victims of violence around the world and in local communities. From international military offensives to ethnically motivated killings to gang warfare, our world is full of violence - every day. Simply to wish that things were different is not enough to make them so. The Song of Peace project seeks to bring thousands - or even millions - of voices together to proclaim loudly that peace in our world is of fundamental importance.
Music is a powerful force. It can inspire, fill with joy and awe, and move hearts. Music can also warn and plead, and it can lament. Music - and indeed all art - that aspires to something greater than mere beauty has always made a great impression, and can be a voice of warning or commemoration in society.
On March 28th in Bangor Voices for Peace and Women with Wings invite you to join them in their musical appeal for peace using words that have been sung for centuries: Dona Nobis Pacem - Grant Us Peace.
