Protest Blue Angels in Brunswick 9/15
September 15 is the date that Maine Veterans for Peace will again march and rally in Brunswick to protest the Navy’s Blue Angels air show at the Naval Air Station. The march will begin at 9:00 am from the downtown Brunswick mall and the rally, starting at noon, will be held at the front gate of the Naval Air Station on Bath Road.
September 15 is the date that General Petraeus and the Bush Administration must report to Congress on the “progress” of the Iraq war and surge.
Two mothers of soldiers currently in Iraq will be among the speakers at the demonstration. They are Linda Chase from Kennebunk and Sandy Bodamer from Rockland. Both women are members of Military Families Speak Out. Singer/songwriter Tom Neilson will also be performing.
Planes from the Brunswick Naval Air Station routinely fly surveillance and reconnaissance missions over Iraq calling in air strikes – many of which kill innocent Iraqi civilians. At these air shows our children are taught to idolize these “gods of metal.”
The Pentagon is now spending $10 billion a month on the Iraq occupation and preparation of permanent military bases continue to be constructed – in spite of talk of “redeployment” of some troops from Iraq. Maine’s share of the Iraq occupation is now more than $1.2 billion – money that would go a long way toward alieveating our health care, education, and public transportation problems here at home.

August 29th, 2007 at 4:13 pmI was active duty for 9 years. I think you all should think twice about being better supporters of our troops. This thing you are doing sucks.

You must not remember how lonely it was living in a combat zone. I remember crying in my MRE because I was scared and lonely during Desert Storm. You people are protesting our military base not the government. You are only affecting our troops.

Can’t you people support the troops and protest the Bush Administration and let the Blue Angels have the last show in Brunswick with out a protest,my 2 sons where in the military and I know they where and still are proud of their careers, give these people a break and find a cause that that can do some good.
September 3rd, 2007 at 8:18 pmAll of the anti-military protesting has already worked. You’re getting the base removed, along with all of the jobs and money that it brings.
September 12th, 2007 at 12:49 pm“YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH.” You protesters can all ******. We live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You? You ******** protesters? These men have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for “innocent civilians” and you curse the military. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that these deaths, while tragic, probably saved American lives, and the US Military’s existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives… YOUR lives you ungrateful son of a bitch. You don’t want the truth because deep down, in places you don’t talk about at your damnable rallies, you want us on that wall. You NEED us on that wall.
The men and women of the US Armed Forces use words like honor, code, loyalty…they use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to men who rise and sleep under the blanket of the very freedom The military provide, then questions the manner in which they provide it! I’d rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post.
